This is a numbered plate block of 4 stamps as pictured (plate number may vary from stock picture) ~ On February 1 2002 in New York NY; the USPS issued the 25th addition to the Black Heritage Series, honoring poet and novelist Langston Hughes. Best-known for his work during the Harlem Renaissance, Hughes was particularly known for his insight, and colorful portrayals of black life in America from the twenties through the sixties. He wrote novels, short stories and plays, as well as poetry, and is also known for his engagement with the world of jazz and the influence it had on his writing, as in "Montage of a Dream Deferred." Hughes died in 1967 at the age of 65.
